“What is your why?  Why did you get out of bed this morning?  Why did you eat what you ate?  Why did you wear what you wore?  Why did you come here?  The big why?  We are certainly not here to just sell . . .  We’re here to connect.  Life is about people.  Advertising is about illuminating how our products and services will improve people’s lives.  Now, how do we do that?  Love, time, death.  Now these three abstractions connect every single human being on earth.  Everything that we covet, everything that we fear not having, everything that we ultimately end up buying, is because at the end of the day, we long for love, we wish we had more time, and we fear death.”  Will Smith in “Collateral Beauty”

I love this speech early in this movie, because it asks that universal question that we all wrestle with at one time or another – Why?  Why am I here?  Why am I doing the things I am doing?  Why?

But to address that latter part of his quote, I would add that discovering the answers to the “why” enables me to:  love more, make the most of the time I have been given, and to not fear death.  As the Apostle Paul so clearly reminds us, “For God gave us spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7   Discovering God’s reasons for placing us here will answer the big “why.”  Do you know your “why?”
