I love watching reruns of “Everybody Loves Raymond” in part because many of Ray and Debra’s interactions are so common to many marriages.  Ray has the propensity (as do many of us) to say and do ridiculous things, resulting in Debra often calling him an idiot.  Now while I don’t recommend calling your spouse an “idiot,” I want to offer a couple of tips to those of us who have worn that label.

First, don’t be an idiot!  Now while that seems obvious, let me just say it this way – try not to make too big of mistakes, and learn from the ones you do make.

Second, don’t beat yourself up too badly when you are.  You are not supposed to be perfect – and neither is your spouse.  Strive to offer grace to your mate as well as yourself, when either of you make mistakes.

Endeavor to do these two things and see if your relationship isn’t a little more enjoyable.
