I recently read a story written by Dr. Bo Brock, a Texas veterinarian, about his grandparents.  It seems that his grandmother would sprinkle his granddad’s work pants with starch and iron them every day.  This struck Bo as odd, because, as a farmer, many days his Papaw would not see another person the entire day.  Ironing his work pants just didn’t make any sense.

One day when Bo was about 13 he asked his grandmother about this practice.  In his mind, those pants were going to quickly get dirty and he just couldn’t understand why she would invest the time.  She replied that “Papaw was the most handsome man in the world.  She said he was her best friend and the love of her life.  She loved every chance she got to show him off and make the rest of the world jealous that he was hers.  She went on to say, ‘You just never know when Papaw might run into someone and I want him to look the part of the most handsome man God ever made.”

As Bo looked at his granddad, he saw a skinny man with thinning hair and crooked false teeth, He could not understand what his grandmother was thinking and he told her so..  She responded with, “You just aren’t looking in the right light.”
