“This is it!  The year when I will finally get that new body that I have dreamed about.  Oh yes, I have said that before, but this time I really mean it.  I have seen the relentless commercials on TV about the discounted gym memberships.  You know – the ones that show carb starved men and women that just stepped out of the ‘perfect body’ magazine.  Yep – that is what I want, and this year I am going to get it.  The taut leg muscles with the abs that don’t quit.  That will be my 2015 focus.  Whether I have to go to the gym every day, get a personal trainer, or photo shop my life – I am going to have that rock hard body!”

You may have felt that way as you embarked on a new diet or exercise program, determined to make good on it this time.  But what is all of that about?  Is it simply about looking better, functioning more efficiently, or is it more about looking younger and trying to beat out the aging process?  Sometimes it boils down to simply wanting to be good enough.

Now don’t get me wrong – I believe in the importance of being healthy and in good shape so that I can function my best.  But I have to make sure that in doing so, I am not missing what is the “most important.”  The scriptures states “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”  I would also add to that the building of relationships with people, particularly family, and especially our husband or wife.

Ask yourself – “How much time am I spending in God’s Word and getting to know Him better?  How much effort am I putting into learning more about my spouse and improving that relationship?  Am I investing as much in things of eternal significance as I am in how I look?

This week’s tip – invest your time and efforts this week and this year in what really matters and lasts beyond just this temporary appearance.
