You may find that to be an interesting question as it could be viewed and answered a number of different ways. You might think, “Well, I live on my own and I earn enough money to support myself, so, yea, I am self-sustaining.” Or you may state, “Ever since I moved out of my parent’s home, I have taken care of all my needs. I don’t depend on anybody.”
While I understand those statements, and certainly in what they are describing, they may be self-sufficient. But what about when it comes to “being good enough?” Some may respond with “Good enough for what?” You see, if I am talking about being good enough to be part of a particular social group, or good enough to get a raise at work, then there is a good chance that you are good enough. But what if I am talking about being good enough to get into heaven? That is a different issue all together.
The Creator of the world is sinless. Are we good enough to spend eternity with Him? That’s easy – Nope. We need His mercy and love that we are guaranteed through the Messiah. And it is available to each of us. It is singularly the most important thing we will ever need to meditate on.
I know that meditation is big today in many non-religious circles. Many meditate on thoughts such as – “I am good enough,” “I am worthy,” or “I am all I need.” While those may be true statements in a purely human context, unfortunately they fall short in the big picture of life. If we will focus on what matters, a better thought to meditate on is this – “By myself, I am not self-sufficient because as a human I am flawed. But I know the Creator and in Him alone, I am given value and worth and am made good enough.” I encourage you to meditate on that – meditate on what matters and what is eternally true.
