I’m confident that those reading this may answer in a number of different ways. Some might reply that you hate change and want things to always remain the same. There is some level of comfort in that for you. While others of you thrive on experiencing new and different things. Whichever camp you find yourself in – I get it.
Sometimes my wife will call me a curmudgeon, as I complain about changes in our society that I find frustrating or demeaning – and I proudly own that label. However, they are other times when I find change refreshing. I remember a friend of mine in California who used to make the statement, “You will only grow by meeting new people and reading new books”. I wholeheartedly find that to be true,
This time of the year, we experience changing seasons, moving from fall to winter, and with that, arriving at the shortest day of the year. We will begin a new calendar year and all of the changing things that 2026 will have to offer. Some of those things may be exciting innovations, with others becoming the bane of human existence. It may be a time of ending damaging relationships or a season of fresh beginnings.
As my wife and are going to be downsizing and moving into a new house early next year, there will be a rush of memories and a hint of sadness at leaving a home that I built nearly 29 years ago. While, at the same time, an air of excitement, beginning a new adventure as we go into a new community, meeting new neighbors, and having the experience of growing in these new relationships.
