“Nothing is more important in a person’s life than what they place their faith, trust, and hope in.” Harold G. Koenig M.D.
Dr. Koenig goes on to discuss the various things or people that we can put our faith in, when he writes about human flourishing. Some people put their faith in people – a spouse, a child, a sports hero, or even political figures Others place their faith in their education, their job, or recognition and fame. He goes on to state: “Whatever the object of faith, this is the god they will serve and the master of their life. It will consume a person’s time, finances, and energy. It will rule their emotions, behavior, and ultimately their physical health.”
So, the question I want to ponder this morning is, “What do you put your faith in?” What do you put your money into? What do you think about the most? However, you answer those questions may give you a clue as to where your faith is placed. It is easy to become enslaved to the things we attach our hopes and dreams to. If our faith is in our job, what happens when we are laid off? If our hope is in a sports-figure, how do we feel when a scandal about them is uncovered?
In contrast, if our faith is in God, we will have freedom from other fragile attachments. God is pure and absolutely good. We can try to ignore him, pretend he is not there, or try to move Him to the outer edge of our lives. But no matter what we do – He is there. If you doubt this, consider that a recent scientific probability study reported that the chances of life forming without God is 1 in 10 to the 200th power, making it statistically impossible.
I encourage you to consider – Where do you put your faith?
