Mondays Matter

“So many men (and women) feel empty and unfulfilled,” begins comedian Jeff Allen. He goes on to talk about the fulfillment and accomplishments we expected to feel by this point in our adult lives. We expected to feel a deeper purpose but instead, we’ve “got nothing.” We go through the motions, and put on a good front around other people, but behind closed doors, our frustrations only deepen. As he says, we begin to feel that we’ve been “swindled, bamboozled, sold a bill of goods.” We lay in bed at night, wondering, “Are we there yet?” But as Allen suggests, there is no there yet.

He then makes this rather raw but insightful statement, We “begin living missing-in-action lives, going through the motions but not really being present, as the frustration and anger grow – affecting marriage, children, and everything around” us.

Wow! A dismal picture for a comedian. But if you knew his story, you would understand the seriousness and insightfulness of his statements. However, it should cause us to reflect, and perhaps, ask the question – is this true of me? Am I pretending and thereby really “missing in action?”

We were designed by our Creator for purpose – purpose in how we live and how we love. But it can be difficult to know what His design for us is, unless we get familiar with Him and His Word. Perhaps you are tired of “missing in action” and want to live a more fulfilling life. I want to encourage you today to reach for more and see what living on purpose looks like.
