Mondays Matter

This may seem like a strange question. I mean, if we’re honest, we all want to be special to someone. But I’m not talking about that. I am talking about being special in the sense of exceling at something. You may want to be a gifted sport’s figure, a talented musician, or even a financial wizard.

You see none of us wake up and want to be a Bob Uecker. Now if you aren’t familiar with this individual, he was a baseball player in the 1960’s. While he played in the majors for 6 years, he  finished his career with a .200 batting average (not considered to be very noteworthy) and became better known for his self-deprecating humor about his unremarkable playing career. Now I realize that he was probably special to his family and even to talk show audiences who enjoyed his humorous image of his career. But as a baseball player alone, he would have gone down in the books, unremarkable.

Yet, when I consider this “Monday Morning,” I want to be special – I want to excel and be known for my competence. I want to be at the top of my game – and I believe we can be, without even being particularly gifted. Well-known (and special) quarterback, Tom Brady, recently said, “The truth is you don’t have to be special. You just have to be what most people aren’t: consistent, determined, and willing to work for it.”

God has called you to be a person with a purpose, who is willing to be consistent, determined, and willing to work for it; and that would be special.
