Relationships Tip Tuesdays

I am so happy that you want me. I will always keep you company and stay close to your side. I will go wherever you go and I will always be available to you. Others may abandon you at times, but I never will. The only thing is – I can be a little jealous. You see, I want your attention to always be on me, so there are some sneaky little things I can do to ensure I have your attention most of the time. I will never judge you or criticize you. And I will be available to you 24/7. So, what do you think – do you want me as your closest companion? I guess I should warn you though that if you choose me to always be there, it is likely that you may find yourself withdrawing from other relationships in order to be with me. That’s fine with me but know that your other people may not like that and may even drift away. So, what do you think?

You may have figured out by now that this companion to whom I am referring is your cell phone. More and more I see individuals who need to have their phone in their hands seemingly all the time. You would almost think they have grown another appendage. While phones can certainly be beneficial, they can also rob us of rich and engaging relationships. Healthy relationships and effective communication require that we put our phones down and (don’t freak out) maybe even out of sight in another room. I know that can feel a little scary but if you want your relationships with your spouse, kids, or friends to be more than casual, you may need to breakup with your phone and relegate it to a healthier place in your life.

Just a thought . . .
