Relationships Tip Tuesdays

Well, it’s that time of year when the kites have come out, the days are longer, and swimming pool “Noodles” are selling at big box stores. It’s a time for outdoor fun. Kids are playing in parks while adults do . . . what? I’m not quite sure. As a kid, summer was a fun time. But as an adult who has to work, you may think a warm summer day is no different than any other day. Hmm – have we lost are “fun?” Maybe now is a good time to rethink our summer as well as how we can better “date” our partner.

I want to offer a few suggestions of ideas to use when planning activities with our mate this summer.

  • Outdoor concerts. In our community FREE outdoor concerts are held in parks across the city and they are actually very good. Find some that you and your spouse would both enjoy and make an evening of it.
  • State and County Fairs. If you want to try a fried pickle, twinkie, or any number of other fried options you might visit a fair. Of course there is always a lot more to do there that is fun without having to eat the less than healthy foods.
  • Go on a Hike. This is great exercise. Plus you and your husband or wife can work off those fried twinkies. Don’t be on a destination mission as much as you simply enjoy being outdoors and with your mate.
  • Take in a ballgame. Many cities have either Major League Baseball teams or often pretty good minor league clubs. If you like sports, this could be a fun date as well.

I haven’t begun to scratch the surface of ideas for summer dates. The main thing is that you are doing something: out of your routine, something fun, and you are doing it with your partner. So, get out there and enjoy some summer fun!
