Author Alistair Begg, in his book “Brave By Faith” raises the issue of drawing a line that you won’t go past. He is writing specifically about moral lines as he wades into the world of seeming confusion.
There was once a time in this country when the majority of people had a common belief in the God of the Bible. The veracity of God’s Word had withstood the test of time, and so people could agree on where moral boundaries existed. Unfortunately, though, that is no longer guaranteed. It seems that in the 21st Century, absolutes are ignored and in their place is – well – pretty much anything. Proverbs 14:12 states, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
So, the challenge becomes this – in a world that more and more accepts “anything goes,” in defiance of God, are you still able to set moral boundaries based on God’s written Word? There is no doubt that with all the pressure to seem “progressive” and “with the times,” it can be challenging. I guess the question is, when confronted with a myriad of choices about everything from pronouns to confusing social justice issues, from appropriate sexual behaviors to honest financial dealings – can you draw your clear red lines and hold to them?
While standing firm may no longer be popular in this culture, it still a hit with the God who created the universe.
