Relationships Tip Tuesdays

I see many couples in my office who struggle to find a consistent date night. It looks good on paper, but when it comes to making it happen, things creep in that so easily derail it. And if the couple has kids, it’s even more difficult. Most couples agree that having a date night is important. So, how can we increase the odds of it actually happening? I want to suggest some possible steps you might try.

  • Plan in Advance – Now that probably seems like a no-brainer but for many couples this is their biggest obstacle. Sit down with your calendars and find dates that will work for both of you – and put it on your calendar, the family calendar – wherever it needs to go so that you will remember. It might even build some excitement seeing it there.
  • Plan Logistics ahead of time – If you have kids, you may need to arrange for a babysitter. Get on their schedule, with plenty of notice. And you might even want to have a plan “B” just in case something comes up. Be prepared for the unexpected things that can so easily interfere with date night.
  • Be open to doing something different. I know some couples whose date night consists of always going out to eat at the same restaurant, ordering the same food every time. While there is nothing wrong with that, I would encourage you to think outside the box and try some new things that may be out of your comfort zone. But it also just might add an element of adventure with your spouse.

If you have come up with any great date night ideas, I would love to her about them
