I would imagine that we could all answer “Yes” to that question. Our world is filled with so many stressors, conflicts, divisions, and problems – it would be extremely helpful to experience more contentment. At the same time, that is something that can be easier said than done. So, how can I have more contentment?
Daniel Amen, M.D., is a psychiatrist and known world wide for having the largest database of brain scans in the world. In his extensive work with people, he has made the following observation – “As a psychiatrist, I have found that when patients lack a spiritual connection or have no sense of purpose, they tend to be more unhappy.” He goes on to say, “I believe we all are spiritual beings created with a divine purpose. A deep sense of spirituality and knowing your purpose are essential for happiness.”
Dr. Amen doesn’t make these statements from a vacuum but from understanding more and more about the human condition. He has been working with patients for decades, studying brain scans, and working with individuals helping them to achieve richer more satisfying and productive lives.
I appreciate this summary, when he writes: “Knowing your purpose in life gives you a sense of meaning and helps guide you in decision making. And when you make better decisions, you increase your chances of a contented life.”
