The world can feel overwhelming at times. As sat in the drive-through at Burger King today, I was listening to the news. I am hearing about wildfires in several states, primary election results across the country, the Russia-Ukraine war, and I find myself feeling well – a little helpless. Why?
Well, I can’t put out the fires, I can’t make the electorate select candidates who have any common sense, and the senseless war – where tens of thousands have been killed with no end in sight. While the leaders in two countries make decisions about men going to war to support their agenda, people in the military are dying needlessly. By that I mean, at some point the war will end with some kind of agreements being made. But why can’t it happen TODAY so thousands of lives could be saved?
Please understand, I am not commenting on anyone’s politics or choosing sides. I am simply acknowledging the overwhelming feeling of these situations that can leave us paralyzed as though there is nothing we can do. And while I may not be able to end a war – Monday’s Matter. It’s a new week and I can still make a difference. How? You might ask.
Today you can impact the lives of people you work with; you might visit your child or grandchild’s classroom; perhaps you run for a school board position; you could participate in a fund raiser for First Responders; maybe you help clean up a local park and the list goes on.
You see, while the world can feel overwhelming, I can choose paralysis or I can choose to make a difference in spite of what I can’t control on the world stage. And maybe, just maybe – if enough of us make a difference in our community, some of it might seep into the larger platforms.
So, go make a difference in your world today!
